MP Smarter Travel has facilitated monthly Accessibility Working Group (AWG) meetings on behalf of Lambeth Council.
Each month the group meets to discuss the accessibility of current and proposed physical infrastructure across the borough, as well as policy reviews. A mixture of office meetings and site visits are used to help discussions and decision making on street design.
“People with disabilities often don’t feel like they’re involved. It is nice to feel useful, included and involved in decision making” – AWG member
The group consists of seven regular members with various disabilities including visual impairments, neurodivergence, and mobility impairments. Through lived experience, the AWG provided valuable insights into a range of accessibility challenges.
“It’s good to know that Lambeth are taking on board what we are saying and it’s good to see that some of the changes have already been implemented. It makes me feel like some people are listening.” – AWG member
